Wii U’s Online Service Doesn’t Require A Subscription

Nintendo's going to be upping its online gaming presence with the Wii U, and now it's confirmed that you won't be required to pay extra for those features, like you would with Xbox Live Gold. Company president Satoru Iwata confirmed the detail at Nintendo's annual shareholder's meeting, as reported by Andriasang.
Iwata didn't rule out the possibility of a paid service that allows users on other, non-Wii U devices to connect to the Nintendo Network. He also made it clear that a paid subscription model isn't right for the upcoming console, arguing that freely available online features will encourage hardware and software sales. That said, seeing as we're still not really sure of how the Wii U's online features will operate, it's probably best to just relax and wait for more details to be revealed.
